Frequently Asked Questions

What is the philosophy behind your designs?

My design philosophy is centered on creating stunning, authentically appropriate "Garden Environments" that bring a sense of innate calm and contentment to my clients. I aim to exceed their expectations by crafting spectacular settings that touch their inner spirit. Synergy between architecture, interiors, and gardens is essential; I see them as one essence. Educating clients about their architecture style, period prominence, and understanding their specific lifestyle ensures success.

How do you guide clients through the Design process? How do you help identify what they really want?

I start by having clients create a "Design Wish List" and express their concerns or constraints individually. These lists are then combined to create a comprehensive design plan that addresses all issues, ensuring total contentment with their outdoor environment. Finding compromise between differing views is gratifying, and there's always a solution for both.

How do you work with Architects and Interior Designers to achieve the goal of creating a garden sanctuary?

I believe in integrating all aspects of design—architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and client lifestyle—to create a cohesive environment. Collaboration among the creative team, including architects, designers, and homeowners, from the project's inception, ensures direction and cohesion. Working as a team fosters creativity and leads to successful outcomes.

What does continuing education look like in landscape design? How do you stay current?

Continuing education is vital for staying sensitive to our environment and promoting sustainability. I focus on learning about organic/green garden design, energy conservation, and sustainable practices to promote a healthier lifestyle and minimize environmental impact.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

Inspiration comes from various sources—patterns, colors, and textures from everyday objects, classic architecture, art history, and the natural world. I also draw inspiration from studying peers and renowned garden designers like Russell Page, as well as creating art with the elements of nature.

What are the projects that you are most proud of?

I take pride in all my projects, whether small-scale or large-scale, as each presents unique challenges and opportunities for creativity. Recent projects include landmark estates like the Harold Lloyd/Green Acres Landmark and collaborations with top designers featured in Architectural Digest.
